9-12 June is out!

Taking place in Kingston-upon-Thames, the festival is presented by UK’s pioneering

FRAME Dance Film Festival receives local public support from Kingston First. Ros Morgan, Chief Executive of Kingston First says “Kingston First are delighted to be able to support not only a locally grown talent incubator but also have the opportunity to bring something unique and cultural to the streets of Kingston. The festival programme is really exciting and we’re looking forward to the welcoming new visitors to the town”.

The festival opens with Kyle Rideout’s EADWEARD, a psychological drama about the Kingston-born pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge, starring Michael Eklund, Sara Canning and Christopher Heyerdahl.

The programme also features musicals, including Alan Parker’s genre classic FAME , Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini’s Brit STREETDANCE and DESERT DANCER, Richard Raymond’s film about Iranian dancer Afshin Ghaffarian.

This year FRAME is celebrating Gene Kelly’s legacy by screening SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, INVITATION TO THE DANCE and THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!

FRAME will also host a series of talks and community events around the role that dance and choreography play in films. The festival will present a retrospective from the Dance For The Camera, which commissioned short films during 1990s and 00s.

Another highlight is the world premiere of a collaboration between students from Kingston University’s Dance and Moving Image Courses, Whirlygig and Cabinet of Living Cinema.

Outdoors, a Big Dance Bus will pump out music to get everybody dancing in the streets.

Industry talks and events will be held in Kingston’s Rose Theatre and include sessions on funding, distribution and commissioning, as well as 1-2-1 speed networking opporunities.

Finally, the DANCESCREEN COMPETITION AND AWARDS will reward entries in the categories of Animation; Documentary; Screen choreography.
The shortlisted films have been selected from hundreds of submissions. Ten UK filmmakers are competing alongside European filmmakers from France, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Germany and Hungary, as well as countries such as USA, Chile, Canada, Australia and China.
